A slide show production of life at the cryolite mining community in Ivigtut Greenland, during the late 40's early 50's. My father lived and worked as an equipment operator in Ivigtut (modern day spelling: Ivituutt), for about 7 years, and these are some of the photo's he took during his days there. Most of the workers who came to work at the mine were primarily from Denmark, though other Scandinavian countries were also represented. It was there that my father, who went to Greenland for the high paying jobs that were scarce in post war Copenhagen, met a young girl who would become my mother. She was also from Denmark and came to Greenland to work as the mine superintendent's house keeper and cook.
